Hammond Loses One Of Its Own

Thomas E. Donahue, age 53 of Merrillville, passed away Monday, June 21, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Karen A. (nee Kessler); two sons: Jon-Tomas (J.T.) Donahue and Joshua E. Donahue, both of Merrillville; two granddaughters: Payton and Abbygael Donahue of Merrillville; mother, Shirley Donahue of Hammond; one sister, Denise (Andrew) Pawlowski of Merrillville; one nephew, Andy Pawlowski; and one niece, Kristi Pawlowski, of Merrillville; Godson, Brandon Williams of Munster. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Donahue; grandmother, Fern Jenkins; and mother-in-law, Martha Kessler. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25, 2010 at 11:00 AM from LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN with Rev. Richard Orlinski officiating. Cremation will follow at Heritage Crematory, Portage, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family for the granddaughters' education would be appreciated. Thomas was a lifetime resident of this area. He served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the Hammond Fire Department for 19 years and also worked for 22 years in Fire and Safety Service at US Steel, Gary Works. He was a member of the Hammond Firefighters Local # 556 and the Hammond Elks Lodge # 485. His granddaughters were his life and he loved spending time with them fishing and shopping.
